Hinton Chevrolet in Lynden, Washington, has been a trusted name in the automotive industry since 1947. Founded by Dwight Hinton, the dealership's story began with a partnership between Dwight and Lawrence Reed at a Texaco gas station. After Dwight returned from World War II, the duo was approached with an opportunity to sell Oldsmobile cars. While Lawrence was hesitant, Dwight pursued the opportunity and started selling Oldsmobile’s directly from the Texaco station in downtown Lynden.
In the early years, Hinton Chevrolet operated out of a small downtown location, but soon after moving to a new facility on the west side of Lynden, Dwight acquired the Chevrolet franchise in 1961. With success in both Oldsmobile and Chevrolet sales, Hinton Chevrolet continued to grow, adding the Pontiac and Buick franchises in the early 1980s.
Over the decades, Dwight's son, Mark Hinton, joined the family business and later introduced the Nissan franchise. After ten years, the focus returned to Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models, following the closure of those franchises by General Motors. Today, Hinton Chevrolet proudly continues the legacy of quality vehicles and customer service established by Dwight and Mark.
Hinton Chevrolet remains Whatcom County's only locally-owned and operated General Motors dealership, proudly serving Lynden and surrounding areas. With decades of experience, the dealership upholds the tradition of trust and community service established in 1947. Now under the leadership of Mark Hinton and his long-time business partner Steve Joostens, Hinton Chevrolet continues to provide exceptional sales, service, and support to customers in Lynden and beyond.
